Plains of Pink and Blue

So, if you ask someone about me, they'll probably describe me as someone who is unhealthfully obsessed with three things: Baten Kaitos, smut, and strange pairings.

...This pairing is pretty damn strange. To be honest, it's full out crack. That's probably why when I saw fanart for the two, I paused for a couple of moments, proceeding with:
"Holy god, YES."

The first and second times I played through FF9, I never really grew attached to Freya. It annoyed me how she kept going on about her boyfriend like a lovesick puppy.
She really just...faded into the background.

Amarant I completely ignored. I believe I only used him once or twice in the entire game (which really sucked when we got to the elemental shrines...).
My good bud and I had come up with a list of all the characters when we were good and bored.
It went along the lines of:
Zidane is teh thief
Vivi is teh cute
etc, etc...
Amarant's was: Amarant is teh pointless.
Ha ha...poor Amarant.

What changed my mind on him was during my current, third play-through of nine. I had decided to not slack off and do everything. This included the tedious chocobo mini-game. Having obtained Amarant's Kaiser knuckles, which are extremely awesome, I decided to stick him into my part for some level grinding. He was doing at least 6000+ damage on every enemy while the others were trudging behind him with only 1-2000+ damage.
Fiddling around with his flair abilities (chakra=love) and throwing useless weapons proved to be quite enjoyable. Meanwhile, I'm thinking to myself:
"Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn."
That was the gist of it. Now I like the guy.

The only thing I really like about Freya during a battle is her "jump" ability. Otherwise, I still don't use her that much. She's usually replaced with Quina, because blue magic is awesome.

Sorry about the little rant there.
Some of you will know exactly what I'm talking about, and others won't have a single clue. That slightly amuses me.

About the picture itself, this one really did not want to cooperate with me. Probably because it's very late right now and I had just finished it. The brain doesn't seem to function rationally when it's tired...

Disregarding the time taken for the sketch, I began the piece at around 4:30 PM, and finished at 1:39 AM. It would have been even longer if I hadn't accidentally collapsed my layers and had gone too far ahead to un-do it. I was going to illustrate a Burmecian interior complete with rain on the window pane.
Well, you make do with what you get.

Oh, and one more thing before I end up chewing off your ears, I didn't give Freya her normal rat legs due to the fact that I know absolutely nothing about animal anatomy. I have difficulties with illustrating human feet already. I don't even want to think about having to have illustrated her normal legs.
I know, it's a weakness not to challenge yourself. But you have to know your limits, too. Maybe someday I'll learn how to draw rat legs nice and proper.

I BS'd Amarant's tattoo due to the fact that I could not find any official reference for it. Not even in the artbook I own. I looked at different Japanese doujinshi covers for the reference.
